Leaving Las Vegas Saturday morning, we headed toward the Grand Canyon. Along the way, we made a pit stop at the Hoover Dam, around 45 minutes outside LV. It’s obvious from the number of pictures I took along the way that the landscape was beautiful.
First stop as we headed toward the Dam was the overlook at Lake Meade…Once you reach the actual Dam, there is a Memorial Bridge that overlooks the massive structure. As you can see below, it’s named in part after Pat Tillman, a former NFL player killed in Afghanistan. If you don’t know the story, google it…fascinating.
The Bridge…I must admit that I freaked out a little with all three kids out there. I made them stay as far away from the edge as possible. I’m pretty sure I had a couple of mini-strokes when the kids leaned against the railing in one of the pictures below. It’s a LONG way down! The Dam is right at the Nevada/Arizona border, so yes, we made the kids stretch out wide to be in two places at one time…at two different hours.
Next stop…the Roadkill Cafe along the famous Route 66. The only thing the kids (and me for that matter) knew about Route 66 was that it was the site of the movie Cars. If Mater would have been real, he’s have certainly been at the Roadkill Cafe. The food wasn’t too bad…Again, I can’t even begin to describe the landscapes. Beautiful. And snow in the desert…who’d have thunk it?
Next stop….Grand Canyon
joy - The pictures of the mountains are beautiful! Makes you want to laugh when people call our little hills around here “mountains”, doesn’t it? The dam freaks me out, I would’ve had all the kids on leashes 🙂
